Granny Nightgowns
I adore pajamas. PJs, jammies, pa-jayjays. Well, to be a bit clearer, I love bedtime. Putting aside some experimentation in college (and who didn't and yes, I'm still talking about sleep) I have always been an early riser. It follows that bedtime comes early in our house, and with it, if I'm lucky — a bath, a gaggle of pets, and an April Cornell nightgown.
These are an old school, I'm-channeling-my-inner-Elizabeth-Bennet kind of nightgown. Delightfully old-fashioned, feminine and flattering and oh so comfortable. I think I have eight. And because I am frugal, I only buy them when they are on sale, half off. The fabric is a gorgeously soft cotton, the styles are becoming for those of us who have retired from our careers as lingerie models. These nighties are cut in a mystically confounding way that ensures there are no middle-aged body parts obviously failing to conform to a ridiculously perky and optimistic teenage standard.
